I told you so.

Soooo, last post was April 24th when I declared Tasty 'n' Sons to be delicious and well worth your time(in very few words-a novelty for me!). Since then? They were voted Best Restaurant of the Year! Can I just say I know what I'm talking about when it comes to good food? Yes, yes I can.

Also since then Tasty has expanded from brunch 9-3 to add happy hour and dinner, so you can fill up on brunch all day or try something different like one of their 3 burgers. I have had all of them and they are all scrumptious.

The first time I went for dinner I got an entree and though the quality of the food was good I would have to say for the price and the portion I got I wasn't too thrilled, and still hungry afterward. I ordered the pork loin with spaetzle and my dining companion ordered the steak and frites. His dinner was $15, mine was $14. His steak was almost double the size of my pork loin for one more dollar!?!? We've gone back a few times-we stick to the burgers now!-and we've noticed the steak is now $18...But we don't care because for $9 you get a damn -wait for it-tasty burger and fries. Its hard to consider the other items when I know one of the burgers is all I need. Is it healthy? Hell no, unless you want to count quality beef as healthy...But it's sourced local, like everything there, and it is mouth watering...and it's nine bucks!!!

Your best bet is still to go for the brunch but at this point the weekend wait can be insane-we were told an hour the other week when we stopped in, we went elsewhere. I don't care how good your food is-I don't wait an hour to get a table, especially if I am hungry and should have dined before I finally managed to get myself out of the house. You know how weekends go; you try to sleep in, you plod around a bit, you grudgingly walk the dogs in your sweats, you sip some coffee, you maybe take a shower and get dressed, then you get an espresso, and THEN you see about brekky at your fave neighborhood joint. And if they tell you there is an hour wait you thank them and take your consumer dollar elsewhere.

I can't count how many times I've gone to Tasty now-I went there for my birthday brunch, I have gone three-five times for dinner. Once I went three times in a week, maybe four(that was my second week, when I was so enamored and wanted to try as many things as quickly as possible as my stomach would allow). A few times I have gotten special treats on the house-the chocolate doughnut with its delicious sauce, limoncello(delightful!). I took my mother there for Mother's Day. Basically it has become my "go to" spot. If for some reason anyone in Portland reading this hasn't been there yet just go. For those of you who don't mind waiting-first get your name on the list-then wander down the street to get your espresso or coffee needs met by Ristretto Roaster owned by Din Johnson. Ristretto and Heart have my vote for best coffee in town-followed by Stumptown (and maybe Water Ave,I am just trying them out this week for the first time so we'll see).

Thank you John Gorham for doing what you do and doing it well.
