I made a frickin delicious lasgana last night! it had a store bought organic marinara and herb sauce enhanced by a coupele fresh tomatoes and an onion, and zuchhini bit, then there was spinach and mushrooms and carrot and garlic layered inbetween mozzarella and ricotta. mmm mmm mmm.
Mike(polo mike) brought a baguette to dip in some olive oil and balsamic vinegar as we waited for it to finish baking.
I also made a lasagna last week but I liked this one better.
I made nachos with Jennifer on Tuesday night and she supplied some Ebenezer brews, and we watched "Lars and the Real Girl", it was a pretty good movie. Bizarre, but good.
I didn't have nay timeot make breakfast this morning so I just ahd glass fo apple cidr adn threw a yogurt and banana inmy bag to take to work. Along with a tangerine and some cocoa which I just made, after making holiday cookies with the kiddos. (cut n bake sugar dough+sprinkles+food coloring+frosting=messy)

Kentucky Fried
Sooo, I went to Kentucky a few weeks ago to see Will Oldham perform. After being introduced to his music by Ben a few years ago(coming up on three?wow, where'd the time go?)I quickly found that he has become one of my favorite current musicians. He hasn't performed in Portland since I knew who he was and when I saw that he'd be doing a benefit for Save Kentucky's Hemlocks I knew I had to go. I never had any desire to go to Kentucky in my life and I'll admit I was slightly wary but I thought 'fuck it! Kentucky or bust!' and I booked myself a ticket for a mini adventure. I wish I could have afforded to take more than a 3 day vacation, but alas it was not possible as people depend on me to watch their lil chilluns.
I had a lot of fun and there is a possibility that one day in the future I may return to the land of Bourbon, but not any time soon. You hear about Lexington being the "horse capitol of the world" but once you get there they don't appear to have any horses. I was almost certain it was all a hoax, until a Kentucky native made an extra effort to find some horses along the side of the highway to point out to me. So, its true they do have horses there, but they mostly have high falootin horses that are all shacked up in a barn. Pfft. Horse country, indeed!
This however is not a blog about horses, but rather about food so lets get to it.(I am aware that some people do in fact dine on the equine, but I think that's pretty horrible, I won't eat rabbit and I won't eat horse).
The main institution of note that I ate at(kind of-I think I only managed to complete about half of my meal)was...The Wafflehouse. Oh boy. The food was not good, that much should be obvious, we're talking Denny's mixed with ? sumthin, but the experience was admittedly fun. My breakfast companion and I had some witty exchanges with the waitress and cook, so that was a bonus. I can't even recall what I ordered, some sort of egg creation with mushrooms and cheese that came with toast. We had some diner coffee. I feel any fantasy of truck stop dining was achieved with this experience...it was even located next door to a gas station. Oh, America! Bestill my beating heart.
After breakfast on Saturday I needed to get some real coffee so we headed to this nice lil cafe back in town adn I got a 12 oz double Americano, it tasted right, even if it wasn't Stumptown. Good to know I am not totally ruined by the Portland coffee experience.
I had a slice of pecan pie in a refridgerator that needed rescueing and it was consumed on the road later that evening-it was delicious! It came from Missy's Pies, located within the confines of Ramseys, and if you ever make it to Lexington I suggest you try some of that pie. I had dined at Ramseys for a late lunch/supper on Friday night before heading off to the concert. I got meatloaf with sides of greens, creamed corn, and mashed potatoes. It was a lot of food and I wound up having to take some of it to go. I also had a scrumptious chocolate milk shake. The dining situation itself was a little marred because the waitress seated me in th eback section-where there was no people watching to be had cos I was th eonly one back there. But I did get to overhear some of the cooks back in the kitchen and that was semi amusing. The food was good and the prices were fine. I think everyone in Kentucky knows about Ramseys but incase you've never heard of it and you go for a visit you should hit it up for some "homestyle" cooking.
Friday morning, when I first got into town, with very little sleep and lots of bourbon running through my viens from a brief Thursday night stay in Louisville I stumbled around the downtown looking for some place to eat. I finally found a place called Alfafa's and it is very much like The Vita or some such place in Portland. Not only did I get breakfast(I think I got biscuits'n'gravy which was so so. The biscuits were good but the gravy wasn't so hot)but my waitress offered to let me crash at her place. I took her up on the offer and took a 3 hour nap before waking up and hanging out with her and her cool daughter,Kayla.
Ok, I'm starting to get hungry so I'll add more to this later, there will be bourbons discussed and yummy fine-ish dining in Louisville. stay tuned...

I like how in practically every post I say how I am going to really get on top of cooking, and then I just don't.
Today was the leftovers of snowday 2008 and I had to get up early to make my way across town. I scurried down to the basement to grab my cross bike and my shoes that were still encrusted in mud from my last race a few weeks ago. I had to dip them in a bowl of warm water to clan them up, and this took the place of eating. I hit the ice laden roads-literally twice when I crashed, my neck, arms adn left hip/buttock region is sore and stiff. yee-haw. Still, it was kind of nice bikeiceskating to work, and having roads mostly devoid of vehicles.
I was actually making good time despite sometimes not even really pedaling, so I stopped in at Kettleman's for an egg/sausage/bagel sandwhich. They have great bagels, but the sandwhich things aren't the best, they look good but the taste doesn't really compare to what you could make at home.
When I arrived at work, on time!, my friend was brewinga french press of coffee up for her hubby and I, she only goes with decaf so that was awfully nice of her.
Later I took the little lass and her dog out for a snow stroll adn we hit up True Brew the one and only coffee shop in the Brooklyn neighborhood. Or at least the main Brookyln strip...I got a slice of banana bread and a cocoa. They were ok, but we really just needed a destination for our walk. Oh, I also got a hardboiled egg which was tough to peel.
When Samantha came home on he rlunch break she offered me some homemade banana bread that had been in the pantry, unbeknownst to me. It was delicious! We had it toasted with butter. Way better than what I had from the coffee shop. This is the second time in the semi recent past that I have ordered bb at a coffee shop only to be presented with homemade and superior bb soon after. the moral of the story? Don't buy banana bread. Unless your friends made it.
They had soem rice/vegetable concoction as well that I had a small bowlful of.
A cup of tea and several glasses of water, followed by crackers and 2 slices of provolone made up my afternoon snack. June had some blueberries, dried mango, sweet potato, and Cheerios. That girl loves Cheerios, its kind of ridiculous.
For dinner Samantha,Tom, June and I hit up the 5th Quadrant cos we were all starving and Samantha was giving em a mercy ride home due to the weather and the long hours we all put in. Tom and Samantha both got Zreubens, and I was tempted but refused t oorder the same thing so I got a portabello mushroom burger. We all had clam chowder as our side. It was good but didn't really tatse liek clam chowder. My "burger" was good but not neccesarily worth $8.5o, turned out dinner was free for me though, so that was nice. Tom and I had the seasonal C beer. C-sasonal? I dunno, it had soem dorky name like that. It was ok. June has some oyster crackers and a taste of a pickle, she seemed to like it and then made a really funny face like "what the hell?". She decided milk was really her best option and settled down long enough to nurse before trying to dance on the table top. Babies at the pub...watch out! We gave our table up to another family and friend with a baby and walked outside to see a man eating in the "heated" patio with his super cute puppy. Thats a good dog owner! I am dogsitting this week so I had to get over to the house to feed the dogs and hang out. The man of the house had made aloaf of rye bread and left it here for me so I had a slice with butter and a Bridgeport IPA. I'll make some rye toast in the morning with some eggs. That oughtta help start the day.

Well, I kind of got bored of my food blog, because it was more of a challenge than I was interested in. Most people making a food blog would choose only to highlight good food they made or had at a restaurant but I chose to chronicle all the food I ate. That became too taxing, if only because I really wasn't eating very interesting stuff and without internet access at all times I had to remember whatever the hell I ate.
Recently its been a lot of eggs, cos they are cheap. For breakfast I had some coffee that my friend/boss made and 2 fried eggs with a slice of swiss cheese nestled between two tortillas, doused with Tapatio sauce. It was edible, but really not that great.
My budget is low right now cos my roommates decided they didn't want "another" roommate and I'm getting the boot, oh the joys. Anyhow I have to save up to move so I can't afford to buy much more than the basics. I did splurge the other day and went to Miss Delta for some southernish food: meatloaf, mashed taters, mac n cheese,a Ninkasi IPA and hushpuppies. Mmmm, hushpuppies! Fried food is almost always good, but hushpuppies top my list of fried good things.
I made the mistake of having some bourbon followed by wine later on in the evening and that really didn't sit too well with my stomach, so I got to relive the dinner a few hours later. Somehow this didn't bother me enough to not eat my leftovers for breakfast the following day, as well as a scramble and some coffee. I tried a cafe au lait form Albine Press a little later but it started to make me feel queasy so I abandoned it and was a bit shaky until I had a beer at polo. I had one more and a cheeseburger later on whilst watching the Ravens/Redskins game. I called Teh Ravens to win, and they did. The first quarter was fun to wtach but then it slowed down and got kind of boring. Needing a bit more food I got one of those vegan wraps from the co-op, which tasted pretty bland, and an apple cider.

What the heck have I been eating?
today I lunched breakfast style with Kaiden at Johnny B.'s on hawthorne and 11th(?). I got biscuits and gravy with hashbrowns and 2 eggs over medium, and a cuppa coffee. Standard diner fare. Kaiden got a pancake with a slice of bacon and an egg.he didn't eat the egg but he did a good job polishing off his pancake, though I had a couple bites. It was a pretty good pancake.
Earlier we swung by Tiny's on the way to his soccer class and he got a steamer and we shared a bagel toasted with butter. We played Addam's family pinball.Watchinga 3 year old play pinball is pretty fun,yo.
before that I had a double americano from armetis, corner of 12th and division, and banana vanilla yogurt.
Last night I wrapped up my night high rollin at the up the street bar,Tiga. i read some Calvino(good stuff) and sipped some Courvoissier, and realizing that food was necessary i got the bean dip with crostini(or just leetle toasts really), and a small green salad(cucumber, tomoto and lettuce).
before my Hithcock class I hit up happy hour with Rob at the place on campus whose name I forget. they actually have decent prices. I got a ceasar salad, garlic fries and an Anchor Steam all for about 8 dollars. Rob got fettucini alfedo for $3.25, and was amazed at the price.
for lunch I got 2 samosas from the Indian food cart downtown, and a mango lassi before grabbing an Americano at Stumptown.
breakfast was once again the cereal. and a cup of Earl Grey tea.
on Wednesday I can't recall what I wound up having for lunch. Oh wait, it was 2 slices of pizza from Hot Lips. One of cheese and one Tex-Mex, doused in Tapatio. Then June and I hit up the art museum,a nd afterwards i got a Limonata at Stumptown. I met up with Jennifer at the Bye and Bye for dinner and a drink.I got the BBQ Brussels bowl,as I heard that was good. Rice, bbq tofu, and brussel sprouts. It was ok, but not exactly spectacular. I had a Double Mountain IRA, which was tasty. I think it was the first time Jennifer and I have gone to bar together and only had one beer. Bizarre!
Tonight I'm gonna meet up with Kara, Melinda and Lynsey at porqueno? for some tacos. They will taste good, I'm sure, but we'll see about the service.Everytime I've been there its been a bit, ohhh, not the greatest. its raining hard right now and probably isn't gonna let up much, so it shouldn't be too packed there, one would hope.
My mind is full of thoughts that don't relate to food, and frankly i am not so interested in eating right now. However one must press on. As of this weekend I am gonna get in gear with cooking. I'm going fishing for the first time ever tomorrow, I think, so perhaps I will have a freshly caught fish to eat...

This morning's soundtrack: Townes Van Zandt, Loudon Wainwright the third
today's breakfast:
Cereal with oat milk-its some high fiber cereal chock full of grains, fruits and nuts. I forgot what kind it is, but its pretty good, and it had better be for 6 bucks a box. its label reads" tasty honest and real" -just like me. ho hum.
Swung by Random Order to get a double Americano, which they make well but damn it, if they aren't the slowest baristas in town I don't know who is. There was a cute baby hanging out with her folks and an old man sitting in the corner seat under a bunch of decorations(they seem valentine-y, I guess Random Order has their seasons a bit mixed up), I took a picture of him-we'll see if it turns out ok. It was really misty this morning, and low lighting in the cafe os who knows. I think I need a new battery for my light meter anyhow.
9/30 Yesterday:
dinner-can of Amy's lentil soup, grapes, a Lara bar
pre dinner-3 Imperial pints of Hop Lava IPA-pretty smooth
lunch-pad thai with tofu from Thai Peacock, dined with my pal Brittney, she paid for me as a late birthday present(thanks Brittney!)We both ordered mild but what we got was no spice whatsoever, which was a little dissapointing but as my digestive system has a been a bit crazy recently its probably for the best
noon time drink: apple cider from the Javaman on 6th Ave. yummers.
breakfast-same ceral as today, followed by a jalapeno cheddar bagel with butter at Tiny's and a double Americano. Chatted it up with Sophie before rushing off to my first day of classes for Fall term. Overdid it a little bit with my rush to get to class on time and spent a few mintues in the bathroom vomiting a little bit. Ahhh, lovely. Lesson learned: don't gulp down the rest of your coffee and then race off. It doesn't sit well.
9/29 Monday:
breakfast-same cereal situation
post breakfast-double Americano from Sweetpea(they need to pull their shots a little better)
and my favortie bagel-they actually once again didn't have them there when I arrived(!) but then as one of the gals was making my drink they arrived, so I grudgingly got one. I almsot didn't, on principle, but decided that was dumb cos I wanted one.
water-it was freaking hot! Apparently Portland decided to re-elect summer.
I didn't really eat lunch, the bagel was at around 10:30,and around 2 I had osme grapes and soem veggies dipped in hummus.
dinner-potato pancakes with apple-bourbon chutney and scallion sour cream. From East Burn on 18th and E.Burnside. Not a very clever name, but it was good. Also had 2 pints of Ninkasi Double Red. And it all only cost $11.50. Pretty good deals! I'd never been there before, nor had my friend Rob, who I met up with to discuss school, life and the such. He just had some Pabsts, but we both agreed we shoudl go back. They have all sorts of things going for them-on Monday they have happy hour drink prices all day. On Tuesday they have $2.00 pints(!!!), on Wednesday they have soem whiskey special-I forgot what it is exactly, maybe 2 dolla whiskeys? ,Thursday they have music, I dunno about Friday and Saturday but Sunday nights they have movies. Good grief. This bar has it all. Check it out. Its also right up the street from the east side location of Fire on the Mountain, so you could go grab some hot wings, then come cool your mouth off with a nice cool local beer. They feature 16 Northwest brews on draft. Niiiiice. I noticed that I missed some good movies on Sunday(Dead Man & Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), but their movie choice gives me faith tha I could show up some other Sunday and be happy. Cyclocross by day beer swilling movie wtacher by night. Thats gonna be my Sunday line up for the next couple months. As Ben and the polo-ites would say: Count it.
9/28 Sunday:
sad attempt at breakfast: stale crackers, glass of lemon lime gatorade, water, a mealy apple
lunch: around 3 i was finally able to consume real food-ginger ale and a salad roll from the co-op
post polo: the other salad roll, another ginger ale, water
a Lara bar
9/27 Saturday: ohhhh no. I started off fine, but by 3 am I was puking my guts up in Rickreall. I think it may have been too many tamales. Breakfast was bacon and eggs and a cuppa joe. Later I had a banana, a bagel with butter and a double Americano on the drive down to the race with Katie and Drew.(Thanks for driving Katie! We love you!) Once we hit salem we stopped in at Roth's to stock up on groceries and to my delight I noted that Jubelale was already out. I was pleasantly surprised and grabbed a case. When we arrived at the R.Kelley farm I cracked one open, and then another before my race, which coupled with me not being in spandex yet caused several of my teammates to enquire "You aren't racing?"To which I explained the finer details of my race strategy. Don't pre-ride. Don't warm up. Have a beer or two. Get your kit on as late as possible. Run to the start with little time to go. Now, of course these aren't good things to do if you are actually serious about yer race, but if your aim is to just have fun, trust me, it works!
I had one of the tamales before my race and afterwards I had several more over a few hours. I only had a few more beers the rest of the night(as I was sharing the Jubelale it went fairly quickly and I only stowed a couple away along with a 22 of Alaskan Smoked Porter, which I appreciated later that night). I has some pasta leftovers and some gruyere and as the night wore on I had a bottle of Gatorade-in orange. As the crew sat around the deck there was a bottle of tequila passed around that I took 3 modest sips from.
at 3 in the morning the fun with puking began. Now, some peopel may be inclined to think perhaps it was the tequila, but really I think it was the tamales...I must've had about 6 of those things. And they'd just been sitting around in a cooler all day.Just the veggie ones probably would've been fine but I had the veggie and the chicken ones...added to the odd mix of everything else I ate it seems the most likely culprit.
9/26 Friday night-I made dinner with Nick, attempted to recreate my good salad from earlier in the week but it didn't work out as well, I forgot to get the avacado, and I felt a little pressured. We made up some rotini from Pastaworks and used their Puttanesca sauce which Nick added a bit to because there wasn't really enough sauce. I picked up a Delerium Tremens for each of us, as Nick had been talking them up the other day. I know they are good but I prefer Chimay or Westmalle as my Belgian regulars. I also grabbed a couple 22s from the co-op but I forgot what they are now.
It wasn't the greatest meal, and it wasn't the greatest night. I got home sometime near 3, beat down by the world a bit, and not too stoked about getting up in 4 hours to get ready for the race.
But in the end, nothing really matters anyhow, so you do what you gotta do, and try to enjoy life whiel you're at it. Eat more good food.
today's breakfast:
As the crew sat around the deck there was a bottle of tequila passed around that I took 3 modest sips from.

woke up early this morning to head off to work with enough time to swing by Sweetpea for that delicious fake cream cheese w/"bacon" and chive, but alas when i got there there were no bagels in sight(one of the employees was picking them up as i placed my order)... lame. so i got a double americano and warily ordered a slice of banana bread. when i got to work and lamented to my boss he laughs and says" oh yeah, we have a whoel batch of banana bread in the fridge. help yourself". thanks! i knew i shouldn't have bought that stuff! i usually try not to buy baked goods that i can make easily. this was the second time i caved this week though as on wednesday i ordered a slice of pie from Random Order, which i regretted for two different reasons. first of all-it didn' taste very good and secondly, i can make some damn good pie so i should have known better thn to spend money on pie. i mean its one thing if you are out travelling and all, and come across some little pie paradise on the side of the road. barring that i needt o make pie and not buy it. Anyhow, i got another americano with Kaiden later-he got a mango smoothie from the Tiny's off of Hawthorne. Then we were off to soccer and the park before heading back to his house where I made us quesadillas for lunch. We smothered them in salsa and had a side of blueberries. Yum and yum.
Last night I mostly had some Obsidian Stout for dinner, with a starter of pad thai leftovers. I capped the night off with a 22 of IPA, minus a glass i shared with my roomie Aden. She gave me half a sesame bagel. I totally know how to live it up. Aden finally got a job, she'sbeen having a hell of a time finding work, and she sold her car, so her luck turned around and I'm happy for her. I missed my chance to go out for celebratory drinks with her earlier as I didn't know what was up cos I was talking with a fellow on the telephone and couldn't be interrupted. The job market is totally ridiculous out there right now, so I'm glad something finally went right for her. Don't quit your dayjobs, peeps, if you have one. Thats the lesson I have to offer you currently.
My Wednesday was a freakin weird day, event wise and food wise. Coffee and bagel at the Tiny's on MLK with Sophie in the morning. I ordered a jalapeno and cheese bagel with butter adn they gave me cream cheese-which i wasnot thrilled about but ate because i didn't want it to get wasted. It totally made me be super phleghmy and I had to run to the bathroom at one point in mid conversation with Sophie to hack up a loogie. the joys.
Later i met up with kayla at RO, for the aforementioned bad pie(blackberry bourbon custard-sounds great but isn't!) and a hot chocolate-which was also subpar. We walked up to Thain Noon for soem dinner, we both got pad thai, she with chicken, me with tofu.I had a Thai iced coffee and she had aThai iced tea. We split some egg rolls. On the way we passed The Know and i saw Ben was there so I figured i should let bygones be bygones and say hello. It was weird to run into him so randomly but it was tying in with the strangeness of the rest of my day. We exchanged hellos and he was friendly which was a nice surprise as my last encounter with him had not been so pleasant. I hadn't seen or had any contact with him for 5 weeks, and it was nice to know that I could just say hello without it being a big deal. After dinner kayla and I rented osme movies adn i walked home, stopping in at the tea shop on Alberta, which I'd never been into and i bought 6 oz od Earl grey lose leaf tea. Kayla had gone home to drop soem stuff off adn was goingto meet me back at my place. I made upa pot of tea adn then she arrived, followed by Jennifer shortly thereafter. kayla also brought osme beer so I had two of those. Then we watched I am not here, that more recent movie "inspired by" Bob Dylan. It was pretty good but since we didn't even start it until 1 i started to nod off a few times.
We went and got breakfast at The Tin Shed Thursday morning but I was kind of grumpy and not being the best conversationalist. I got some potatoe pancakes topped with scrambled eggs and mushroom rosemary gravy and a biscuit. It was fine but not as delicious as it has been in the past...
I feel like there was soemthing pretty good I ate recently but can't remeber what it was. I made a good salad earlier in the week(endive, grated beet, carrot, ginger, red pepper, heirlom tomatoes, avacado) and i got a delicious croissant and some good bread from Little T bakery over on aprox. 27th and Division. I went to Montage and got the spicy mac on Tuesday night. It tastes the same as always.
I also met up my buddy Paul and his friends who just moved to town recently, at The Florida Room.It was pretty busy for a Tue. night, I ws a lil annoyed with having to wait in line. Nick joined us for a little while as well. I had two vodka tonics and a beer. After Nick left I had another beer-cos Paul and his friends kept going up to the bar and ordering 4 Olys at atime-to not have to deal with the line in the near future. We had a few more beers and chips back at their house later. Needless to say I was nursing a hangover the next morning. Its that gin, man, it just gets you!
I wanna make applesauce tonight...we'll see. I'm missing Cory's b-day party down at Rickreall tonight cos I don't have a ride and cos Dabby said it was on Saturday so I didn't make any extra effort to figure out how to get there tonight. Pfft. I'm gonna try to make him a cake tonight, maybe, and bring it down tomorrow for the race, which is looking like its gonna be awesome. I'm sure my food consumption over the weekend will consist of many beers(post race),a tamale-I heard we scored 200 tamales to bring to the race, and whatever else I can scrounge up.

Today I slept in(if you count sleeping until 9 sleeping in, after going to bed sometime around 1) and I was a lil groggy when I rolled outta bed, no coffee in the house to be had, so I had me a bowl o cereal with some dried cranberries in it. Water and pomegranate/cherry/blueberry juice. Tart, not so much tasty, but real good for you.
A bagel with cream cheese followed-finally they have all been eaten up. I got tired of them after the second day, but, you know, one must finish what they start.
Then I was off to the u-pick farm with Tatyana to get peaches, but only 3...the trees had a bunch of unripe fruit, and hence the low turnout. Tatyana got 6 but I kept finding sad trees with either no peaches or ones that weren't ready. Then we headed over to the blueberry rows where we each got about 2-3 cups of berries. I couldn't stand the heat(brainiac that I am I brought neither hat nor sunscreen with me)and so we ambled through the market aisles, where I gathered up a 10 lb. bag of yukon golds, a nectarine, a garlic bulb, bottles of apple cider and water. All this bounty cost me a mere $8.55! Sauvie's Island is the place to get your produce, peeps. Check it out.
Back in town I felt myself really really craving some coffee so we hit up Ristretto's, which not only smells great but has good coffee(roasted on the premises, yo) and the staff ain't so bad looking. Its like a less popular Stumptown. I actually think they have better coffee, at least some of the blends.
By this time we were famished and we procured some vittles at Bumblekiss, up on aprox. 46th and Fremont(just off the corner). Its a little uber cute/modern with bright colors everywhere, but don't let that dissuade you from dining here, the food is good. I got some breakfast named the Big Burly Benny or some such silliness. Biscuits'n'gravy with apple chicken sausage, 2 eggs over medium(it came with scrambled but I substituted). It filled the void(when art doesn't cut it, try food).
For dinner I actually made food, albeit easy food, as I was having Jennifer join me for dinner. I had a can of tomato sauce that I spruced up with sauteed mushrooms and fresh basil and Jennifer brought some fresh tomatoes from her garden to add to the mix. We simmered it for awhile and then threw it atop some pasta. Some organic beers were imbibed, and things seemed well. I was too lazy to make the salad, so we stuck with the basics.
I've known this for awhile but it came to mind several times today. If I don't have someone to share the food I cook with I most likely am gonna either cop out and just go buy a burrito(from any of the zillion(or 4) taquerias on or near Alberta) or a pulled pork sandwhich(from Podnah's Pit, located at 15th & Prescott-cos its good) or I will make something that is infact food but not anything I would write home about. Sometimes I really go for it, but then when I'm eating my delicious meal and enjoying it there is still that little thought"wouldn't this be better if it was shared with somebody?". Pfft. Life!
Anyhow, yesterday I ate a fucking carrot for dinner, followed by a bagel 2 hours later. There was a bite of a peanut butter Clif bar in there somewhere, too. Yummers! Who knows why I was so ridiculous? Oh wait, I do. Its cos I was hanging out with someone and was more concentrated on that than feeding myself. I'll have to make sure that doesn't happen. As I always tell my friend who has the habit of not eating well, or regurlarly, when you use a lot of calories you need to replace them. I worked off a lot of effin calories last night doing bike stuff and a carrot and bagel just doesn't cut it. Learn from my mistakes...
Earlier in the day however I was on top of it and went to Philadelphias for lunch and had me a mushroom cheese steak sandwhich and a pint of Ninkasi's IPA.
Breakfast was the boring bagel, once again...

brekky:
french pressed coffee
bagel with nancy's cc
water
whoa nelly, i'm really living it up.
last night's "dinner":
slice o quiche
1/3 of a peach
slices of gruyere(like omg the best cheese ever!totally)
couple few glasses o champagnuhhh
water
olives
consumed with mes amis Sophie et Jesse
snack: choco coffee milkshake from True Brew, tasty but I think I was a lil dehydrated and hence couldn't finish it and felt a lil ill after drinking it
lunch: barley and veggies
a green juice thing-i forget what its called
water
breakfast: same as today
i'm feeling a bit stagnant in the cooking world, my funds have been low and i want to buy a lot of ingredients but can't afford to, then there is the fact that i've been pretty busy as of late and by the time it gets to feeding times i am usually too drained to prepare anything of interest.
On Sunday I had a weird breakfast at the yurt site in Washington-a half cuppa joe, a low quality bagel "toasted" over a campfire, topped with pb&j, water, later i had a beer. the 10 am beer...ahhh. breakfast of champions, right?
After a brief jaunt on the beach(Amber and I rescued a shored fish!-mostly Amber did and I cheered her on, I tried to pick it up but it jumped away and was all crazy) the crew of the "goonies classic ride" piled up in the cars and we drove back into Astoria where we stopped at the coffee shop that has an orange cup as its sign. Does this cafe have a name? I just refer to it as The Orange Cup. I didn't have any coffee, though they have Stumptown, and I know its good but it was warming up quite a bit and I knew that being in the car for an hour plus wasn't gonna sit well with me anyhow, coffee didn't seem like a choice idea.
Instead I had a breakfast sandwhich : cheese, egg, ham on an english muffin, and a berry pinwheel, and water.
Back in town I had a piece of chocolate(left over from s'mores the night before)and a banana before heading home and contemplating what was the next best thing to eat.
Luckily I didn't have to ponder too long cos I had the good timing to call Nick up right when he was at the grocery store. C'est superb! I suggested salad stuff, for his own good eating but of course I was calling to see if he wanted to meet up over food anyhow, so it worked in my best interest, too. Really I'd just had salad on the mind cos it was hot out and cos I haven't been eating enough produce.
I got some salmon non gratis from the daughter of the people I'm dogsitting for so I brught that and some walnuts-which I forgot about-and some beer (Blue Heron) to contribute. Nick did all the work and I just kicked back sipping my beer. I felt slightly guilty about this but I figured he had it under control, and it was his house so, you know, I was a guest and was allowed to just chill. Normally I'd offer to help(mais oui!) but I was feeling pretty tired and thought it was ok to just veg out for a little while. He tossed together a simple salad and seared the salmon, and we had a nice meal.
That was probably the healthiest dinner I've had in awhile. Saturday night in Astoria I had fish'n'chips, coleslaw(2 sevings cos Christopher wanted nothing to do with his portion), and two pints of IPA, with the clever name of Bitter Bitch. Amber ordered a slice of cheesecake which turned out to be delicious but too much food for her to take in after half a burger so she shared it with whomever, which wound up with me finishing it off. Tasty treats. The name of the joint we were at was The Wet Dog Cafe (or pub?). The food was good, and we got a window seat so we could watch a ship passing by. Fun with dining!
So...whats for lunch?

I did not wind up making a good dinner Tuesday night as I had said I would. Instead I crashed the New Seasons and got some pita bread and hummus for myself and some icecream for Kayla. To wash it down I had a 22 of some beer, I forgot which kind I got at this point. It was probably an IPA, cos thats what I like the bestest. then her new roomie,Jake, offered up one of his harp lagers so I had that, too. When I got back home I had some water, ahhhh, nature's finest.
Wednesday didn't offer much greatness in the food world for me. funds were running low and i was too busy to eat well.
Breakfast:Blueberry mufin, hardboiled egg and a double americano from the James John Cafe in St.John's.
snack: a few bites of icecream, water
lunch, part one: peanut butter and jelly sandwhich
lunch, part two: vegan thai wrap, water
snack: granola bar
dinner: linguine and 2 pints o beer from Tiga, my up the street bar. The linguine was ok, but at $8 I certainly wouldn't have ordered it if it weren't for the fact I was famished and not in the mood to cook. I had the Hub Hefeweizen and wasn't that into it, cos I don't like the hefe, but I like Hub and I didn't even know it was a hefe, I just ordered a pint of Hub. pfft. Beer #2 was an IPA, but I forgot what it was. Hmm...It was fine, nothing extremely brilliant but I wound up getting to meet and converse with a smart fellow whilst sipping this beer so it was worth it.
Lots of water was also consumed before hitting the hay. I rode my bike all over town and was definitely feeling the loss of calories. Boo, hiss.
Thursday I woke up earlier than I would have liked and made up a french press of Ristretto's new Mexican roast. i forgto the exact type, its not as full bodied as I like my coffee to be, since its not adark roast but its good, like all their coffees. I drank about three fourths of the fp and had some lacklustre toast with scant butter.
I met a pal downtown for the consumption of a raspberry italian soda and water at Stumptown #2, before we heaed to the food cart row in which we ordered the veggie lunch special and an order of samosas from the Indian food cart. We strolled down to the waterfront and ate the food while gazing at the river.
Back at my house I had a few Fat Tire beers and water. Oh, the excitement!
Later on there was some Bridgeport IPA trown into the mix along with a nice snacky dinner of bread, fresh mozzerella, tomato, salt, roasted garlic, and olives. I can't take credit for deciding on or preparing the food, I just chatted with the person who was responsible for making sure we both ate.
This morning I had a banana before rushing off to work, stopping in at Stumptown(Belmont) for a double Americano where I learned Tim has taken to washing his hair in order to achieve maximum fluffiness. A couple bites of french toast sticks that had been rejected by my three year old charge were consumed but not appreciated(there was a reason while the lil kipper had no interest in them-blandness is not appealing). An early lunch of quesadillas wih some chips and guacamole was ours for the taking, and that satiated me for a bit.
Soon, I am gonna bust out with more cooking, and baking and whathave you. My stomach demands that I get it together. Tomorrow however I will be biking to Astoria and I see PBJ's and Clif bars being my main source of sustenance...

Sooooo, I totally forgot what my username and password and all that jazz was so I haven't posted anything in forever and a day(or a year plus if you wanna get all technical about it) but lo and behold apparently I'm smarter than my memory gives me credit for and I had documented this information in my email draft section.
Today I have no real exciting food news. I'm broke, cos rent is due today so I stopped in at Sweetpea bakery (12th and Stark) on my way to work to get one vegan everything bagel with two different spreads, and a double Americano-12 oz-tourjours! Now, I have been going to this bakery for about amonth to get this bagel with "bacon scallion cream cheese". It's absolutely delicious! But there is no actual cream cheese or bacon involved. Every time I go I get this(except the one time I went to the Sunday Brunch-all you can eat buffet style including coffee and oj for $10-its a pretty sweet deal y'all)so today I asked what other spreads they had and the gal said today they had my fave, along with plain tofutti non cream cheese and...chipotle! So I got a combo of the bacon and the chipotle, on her recommendation. When I finally got around to eating it, about an hour and half later I noted that while it was good it certainly was not as good as just the fake bacon one. So, remember that if you go there. Maybe the chipotle would be better on its own or ona different type of bagel...
For lunch my boss took care of me and bought me some mac'n'cheese from New Seasons. I gotta say it is nowhere near as good as mac'n'cheese I've made. And at $4.49 per square it doesn't seem worth it. I pledge to make something decent for dinner tonight...after I get paid.
Over the weekend I ate pretty poorly cos I was camping and had bought a weird mix of things. I recall consuming:pasta withtomato and olive oil, tortilla chips, 2 pbj's, coffee, water, gatorade, a plum, a nectarine, 2 clif bars, beer, beer, beer, a breakfast burrito on Monday provided by some lovely fellow campers(J-Bone and Micah-thanks!), a half pocket of pita bread with a slice of ham and provolone and 2 sips of whiskey(also provided by J&M), a banana...thats not really enough food for me inbetween Saturday and Monday but oh well. I also brought stuff that I didn't wind up eating-like a bell pepper and some tomatoes. Not so much good with the prep there. Next time!
Once I was back in town I got a veggie burrito from up the street at Chilango's which was really subpar and a 22 of Lagunita's IPA Maximus from the up the street mini mart. The beer tasted good. Later I went with Kayla to La Bonita as she was hankering for a quesadilla and I got a veggie fajita. It was fine but nothing extremely great. Lots of people rave about La Bonita but they aren't my favorite.
Food, its great and all but sometimes its a letdown.
